CISHE “aims to lead and facilitate research of international excellence, placing emphasis on tackling health inequalities and ensuring that our research has an impact on policy and practice in Wales and beyond”. Since it was established in 2003, CISHE has secured significant project funding from, amongst others, the ESRC, Wellcome, WG, NPRI, UKCRC, MRC, AERC, AHRC, HTA, NIHR, NISCHR and WHO and now boasts a national and international reputation in this area.
A broad range of research projects have been funded from intervention development studies, action research projects, feasibility studies to large scale randomised controlled trials of complex interventions. The majority of these studies have focussed on community settings and populations but have concerned themselves with a range of health issues including the social determinants of health, diet and nutrition, physical activity; and alcohol, tobacco and drugs. Across our projects, CISHE researchers adopt a multidisciplinary and multi method approach with strong engagement with policy, practice and public user communities
